Artist Corner: Lisa Perry

Occupation During the day, I'm a full-time middle school counselor. I love working with kids, watching them learn and sharing in their lives. It's a fun job that allows quite a bit of free time to pursue my other passions. I have the summers to indulge in the creative things I'm passionate about.
Likes I love photography and scrapbooking. I really wanted to start creating my scrapbooks digitally so I found some online Photoshop classes and started learning. It didn't take long and I was hooked! It took me a while to figure out all those tools and brushes but I love every minute of it. Well, almost every minute. I love designing layouts, cards, prints and posters. It's been so much fun learning something new and putting it to use. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I love creating, in my free time.
Inspiration Last December, I need to take a leave of absence to care for a sick family member. While it was a challenge, I found my self with some down time. That's when I found PosterMyWall. I had decided to not just create things for myself but to branch out and start selling my creations on Etsy. While I was searching for a place to print my projects, I came upon PosterMyWall. I was so excited to see all the amazing things the designers were doing and decided to submit a few designs. I was amazed when one of my posters sold! Well then I went a little bananas and started designing away. It allowed me to be creative in the midst of what was a very difficult time in our family. I find designing to be a great stress reliever and to get paid for it was just icing on the cake! In the past 6 months, I've created many layouts, had 277 sales and 3008 customizations! It's hard to believe.
Design Style My style is anywhere from traditional to "craftsy". I love creating things for children and families. That's the category you'll find most of my work in. I'm inspired by the many scrapbook creations I've seen and created over the years. That's where most of my ideas stem from.
Typical Day At home, I have two teenage boys who keep my busy. They both play multiple sports and are involved in lots of activities. They are fun kids growing into wonderful, young men. I'm one lucky mom. They both say they feel like they've lived with paparazzi their whole lives because I was always taking pictures! Our family room is filled with photographs of our lives and filled to the brim scrapbooks. We love to travel and spend time as a family.
I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do what I love and get paid for it. Somehow it doesn't feel like work. I will continue to design for PosterMyWall, as long as they'll allow it. I'm so fortunate to have found a way to express my creative side. It just doesn't get any better than this!
