Customer Stories: Rachel Martin, educator and 4-H leader
Our PosterMyWall team’s primary source of inspiration is our customers. We watch what you design and monitor which tools you are using. And we also hold quarterly industry-specific “customer feedback councils” where we encourage like minded individuals to share not only with us, but with each other.
In October, our customer council brought together an impressive group of educators, each of whom had their own unique way of using the wide array of the features we had designed expressly for them.
As we discussed PosterMyWall features including classroom accounts, video, and email, one of our attendees, Rachel Martin, impressed us with the many ways she uses the online graphic design tool to the benefit of the organizations she works with and her community at large.
Rachel’s path to PosterMyWall
Rachel’s official title is secretary to the superintendent at the Alexandria Community School Corporation in Indiana. She first found out about PosterMyWall when the Indiana Department of Education did a set of webinars about increasing enrollment.
“Many of us shared information about what programs we use to create posts for social media. One of the educators named PosterMyWall. After the webinar I checked it out and was hooked.”
“Within our school corporation, PosterMyWall has been a Godsend for our social media,” said Rachel.
Using PosterMyWall videos to promote job postings
One of Rachel’s unique applications of PosterMyWall was to use PosterMyWall designs to draw more - and better applicants to the Alexandria Community School Corporation’s vacant positions. This use seems especially pertinent in today's climate of career uncertainty, high unemployment, and organizations struggling to fill essential positions.
“Job postings were being overlooked and unshared until we started using PosterMyWall. Adding video to our job postings caught the attention of our audience and followers began tagging friends to our posts - which lead to a measurable increase in applications.”
Rachel put PosterMyWall's video features to work on a host of platforms, including LinkedIn where she was able to reach people who were already looking for jobs.
Using PosterMyWall to promote school events and employees
With so many activities moving online, Rachel took advantage of PosterMyWall templates to help give each event the spotlight it deserved. This wide variety of promotions highlighted programs for kindergarten and preschool signup, e-learning instruction, the availability of student meals (or my favorite) distributing gloves in memory of Mr Rex, a favorite custodian.
"’Mr. Rex Yeagy was a custodian with our corporation for 20 years, who was killed in a motorcycle accident on July 2, 2019,” said Rachel. Mr. Rex was loved by the elementary school students. He was known for giving high-fives to every student in the morning, and could always tell when a kid was having a bad day.
After Mr. Rex’s death, many students commented on how they would miss Mr. Rex’s high fives and encouragement. When a group of Rex's friends noticed that many kids were coming to school without gloves in the winter months, an idea was born. Wouldn’t it be great if they could provide an endless supply of gloves to the kids? And wouldn’t that be a great way of remembering Rex as they kept those high-five hands warm?
The program has been a huge success. Gloves are handed out by the bus drivers as needed, and baskets of gloves are available at the schools for kids to take any time they need them.
Direct posting saves time
“Poster My Wall has also been helpful in advertising events and spotlighting employees in our school corporation. Being able to post directly to social media is a time saver and keeps our timeline full of new posts,” said Rachel.
The other educators who participated in our customer council were especially impressed with Rachel’s ability to create attractive school lunch menus. (Menus are one of PosterMyWall’s favorite templates types. Many restaurants use our professionally created designs… shouldn’t schools use them, as well?)
Finally, let us call out how well Rachel is able to salute the standout teachers (#teachertuesday) who are giving their all and making a difference in the lives of their students.
Using PosterMyWall to promote 4-H activities.
In addition to being the master communicator for the Alexandria Community School Corporation, she is also a building superintendent for the Madison County 4-H Association and 4-H club leader for Happy Helpers 4-H Club.
“Within 4-H we use PosterMyWall to promote the program and update those not currently involved in 4-H about activities and enrollment opportunities.”
With so many people in need of community involvement to feed their spirit, we commend Rachel’s use of our templates and tools to create excitement about the many opportunities kids (and parents) have to try new things and to show off their hobbies.
Contributing with flair and personality
As we mentioned in the intro, here at PosterMyWall, we are frequently inspired by our users; whether they are using our service to promote their businesses, pursue their passions, or even care for their spiritual lives. We appreciate not only Rachel’s creativity in how she uses PosterMyWall, but the way Rachel uses a wide variety of designs and styles to speak to each of her audiences.
Here's to you Rachel, and all you do for teachers, parents, students and the community!
